Haxby Food Share Project

The Haxby Food Share Project is an initiative set up to help people in the Haxby and Wigginton area. It’s overseen by the Memorial Hall, in partnership with Haxby’s Local Area Co-ordinator from the City of York Council.

Every Wednesday and Friday lunchtime, the team distribute food gifted by the community, local shops, businesses and other food collection services.

If you’d like some free food or other goods to help support yourself or your family please come along and pick what you need. Everyone is welcome — no referral or voucher is needed, and no questions are asked. Hopefully it will make life a little easier.

Please come early for the widest choice of food!

Here are some more specific suggestions and ideas in case they help you when shopping. Even if you just bring a few tins every now and then, the helpers will be delighted and you’ll be helping people who really are in need:

Tins, Jars and Bottles

Tinned hot dog sausages • Tinned fish • Tinned meat (Corned beef, Ham, Spam, …)

Cleaning and Pets

Wipes • Sprays • Washing powder/liquid • Washing up liquid • Sprays

You can leave your items in the collection boxes at the Memorial Hall’s main entrance, which is around the side of the building. They’ll be distributed at the next session.

Alternatively, if you’d prefer to give a gift of some money to support the project you can do so using online using their Go Fund Me web page. (If you’ve paid enough tax you can use Gift Aid when doing this then, as a registered charity, they can reclaim the tax you’ve already paid on the amount you give.)
