Operation Orphan is a charity based in Nottingham. Gail Lazenby and Jill Crampton in our church have been involved with them now for 9 years and have had the privilege of travelling to Moldova on three occasions to deliver aid.
The charity is currently heavily involved in providing assistance to people fleeing Ukraine and arriving in Moldova. Moldova is the poorest country in Europe and are very willing to help but often do not have the funds to do much. They have employed a local lady to look out for vulnerable families coming across the border and help them with what they need.
Aid has also gone out there in lorries. However, they are finding that it is better to buy goods on the spot — eg, firewood and fresh food.
Coffee and Cakes Morning
We have therefore decided to help them by holding a fundraising Coffee and Cakes morning on Saturday 25th June from 10am to 12pm.
Come along and have a morning meeting, socialising and a good chat! There’ll be no set charges but we encourage you to make a donation. There will also be a raffle of small gifts.
Operation Orphan are completely underwritten by a Nottingham company for their administrative costs, so all monies go completely to their projects. If you’d like to learn more about them, their website is: www.operation-orphan.org
Warm Coats for Children
We are also collecting warm, clean coats for children aged 3–18 years. If you have any you would like to donate, please bring them along to the Coffee Morning. (Or you can contact Gail or Jill to arrange giving them on another day.)
Please note: We are not collecting any other items at this time.
