Praying Through Lent: Week 4

Updated: Mar 21

Week beginning Sunday 14th March 2021

We’d like to invite you to join with others in our congregation to pray together through Lent, knowing that we can feel connected to each other by knowing that others will be praying with us.

A woman, with eyes closed and hands clasped, praying.

Each week we shall reflect and pray over the lectionary passage for the week, following the same format: a Bible reading, a question(s), a prayer and an action.

Before you begin to pray, find a comfortable, quiet place to sit — perhaps light a candle. If it’s helpful to you, perhaps establish a rhythm by praying at the same time each day.

Week 4: beginning Sunday 14th March 2021

As I begin to pray, I pause to be still;

to breathe slowly, to acknowledge that I am in the presence of God.

Luke 2:33–35

And the child’s father and mother were amazed at what was being said about him. Then Simeon blessed them and said to his mother Mary, “This child is destined for the falling and the rising of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be opposed so that the inner thoughts of many will be revealed—and a sword will pierce your own soul too.”

Questions to Consider

  • Consider the support that the Church offers families, both young and old, in our own community.

Prayer

We pray for people we know who lovingly nurture others who may be new to faith, who may be surrounded by devastation and hate, who may be struggling to make ends meet, who may be tired out. Fill them and us with your strength and love, so that we all may be filled with understanding and creative Christian power, bringing love to the community. Amen.

Action

Discuss creative ways to nurture and care for the community. Find ways to put words into action and stick at it.
